New Restaurant Plans Do Not Move Forward At Frankfort Village Board

FRANKFORT, IL — Plans for a new restaurant in Frankfort have stalled after the Village Board sustained the plan commissions’ denials for the project at Monday’s Frankfort Village Board meeting.

At the meeting, the Board rejected a major change to the Brookside Commons Office Centre planned unit development, and special use permits for outdoor seating, a full-service restaurant with liquor sales and a drive-up service window.

A new restaurant, Rhumbar, at 10211 W. Lincoln Highway has been proposed within the Brookside Office Centre Development.

The space was formerly occupied by Simply Smokin’ BBQ, Trustee Maura Rigoni said.

The plan commission held a public hearing on Oct. 24, and unanimously recommended denial of the requests, forwarding four negative recommendations to the Board.

“During the workshops and public hearings held on the project, the plan commission voiced frustration with the applicant due to the frequent plan revisions and the submitted plans not being consistent with the applicant’s testimony, including proposed exterior light fixtures and desired exterior signage,” Rigoni said.

Since the commission did not give a favorable recommendation, a favorable majority of four trustees from the Village Board would have been required.

The Board did not make any motion on the project.

“Since there is no motion to be made, the Board will not be voting on this, and will be sustaining the denial,” Mayor Keith Ogle said.
