CALIFORNIA — From strange and stressful to successful, here are the top 24 candidates who made their mark this year in the Guinness World Record book.
1. Octagenarian Breaks Records In Jump Rope, Planking, Dead Hang: “I’m Happiest When I’m Active:” Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills resident and multi-Guinness World Records holder Annie Judis spoke about what fuels her success. Judis has broken records in the “Jump Roping” category for over six years running. At 81, she added a few new categories to her records this year, including the dead hang and planking, which she held for 4 minutes, 37 seconds in August. In November, she published a children’s book entitled “Beverly Hills Jump Rope Queen.”
After a storied acting career in the ’60s and ’70s, Judis briefly dated Richard Burton, has lived an epic life story, and is a mother and grandmother. “She’s been a beauty pageant queen, a Playboy cover girl, and a Hollywood actress in the likes of Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets, under the screen name Jeannie Bell.” But her world records hold her heartand passion in her octogenarian years, as does being a fitness influencer.

2. Fastest Time To Solve A Rotating Puzzle Cube Whilst Juggling: Berkeley
According to Guinness adjudicators, it took this Berkeley resident just over 12 seconds to solve a rotating puzzle cube while he juggled. Ethan Jan broke this record in April and has practiced solving the cube puzzle one-handed.
3. Longest Crochet Scarf (Individual): Richmond
In April, Richmond resident Daisy Ptak crocheted the longest scarf ever measured by Guinness World Record adjudicators.

The scarf measured 299.31 m (981 ft 9 in), and she achieved the record-breaking length of the scarf from an untold number of yarn skeins, which she crocheted all by herself.
4. Fastest Time To Gift-wrap A Guinness World Records Book (Under 16s): Calabasas
Just shy of his 16th birthday, Calabasas resident David Dabach wrapped the fasted gift of a Guinness World Records Book in under 16 seconds on April 13. David managed the feat in 15.28 seconds, they said.
5. Largest Cornhole Tournament: Roseville
In a relatively new category, a group from Roseville held the largest cornhole tournament in February. A total of 838 participants played in the tournament, organized by and achieved by Roebbelen Contracting, Inc.
“If you want to try and break this record, you must have more people playing in the same tournament, the number of teams is unlimited, and whether you break the record will be measured by the number of individual entries into the tournament,” a Guinness spokesperson said.
6. Most level-capped characters in World of Warcraft: Dragon Flight: Alameda
This year, Alameda resident Erik Marzlof broke the world record for having the most level-capped characters in World of Warcraft: Dragon Flight. Marzlof topped out 60 of his characters on April 10, 2024.
“A level cap is the maximum level a character can reach in a video game,” According to Guinness. “Marzolf started this attempt in June 2023 with only 32 characters at level 70, and has nearly doubled his total to achieve the record.”
7. Most Surfboards Surfed On A Single Wave: Goleta
Goleta resident and UCSB student Graham New achieved a world record for “the most surfboards surfed on a single wave,” according to Guinness adjudicators. New used three surfboards to surf that one wave in Goleta, California, USA, on June 6, 2024. He changed from one board to the others, all while riding upon one wave to earn that record.
According to Guinness, Graham has surfed for almost a decade and wanted to push himself further in the sport.
8. Largest Gathering Of People Wearing Underwear On Their Heads: Pasadena
“America’s Got Talent” is a favorite place for aspiring record breakers. In July, Nicolas “Nick” Manning of Australia fell short of winning one world record and went for another.
During filming, Manning asked the audience to participate in beating a record for the largest gathering of people wearing underwear on their heads.
The crowd obliged, with 1,206 people participating, counted by adjudicators. “The underwear was collected and donated to charity after the attempt concluded.” Though he was not selected to move on in the show, Manning got support from the crowd.
9. Longest Duration Juggling On An Elevated Slackline: Coronado
On World Circus Day, Edgar Yudkevich achieved his world record for “the longest duration juggling on an elevated slackline,” according to Guinness. He completed the feat for 21 min 58.54 seconds on April 20, 2024.
“Edgar decided to attempt this record on the 20th of April in celebration of World Circus Day and hopes this feat inspires his students and community to pursue their circus dreams!” they said.
10. Largest Collection Of Airline Tags: Oakland
This year, Leandro Reis managed to break a world record not broken since 1994.
Reis, a resident of Oakland, shared his collection of airline tags totaling 692 on April 13, according to Guinness. That number surpassed the previous airline tags collected for this world traveler.
“Leandro’s collection first began in 1981 with a tag from Pan Am Airlines, where he traveled from Rio de Janeiro to Miami,” they said. Still traveling, it seems like a record he’s intent on holding.
11. Fastest Speed In An NHRA Drag Racing Funny Car Race (1,000 ft): Pomona
Austin Prock broke a world record in November in Pomona, according to a Guinness spokesperson. He achieved the fastest speed in a 1,000-foot NHRA race in the Funny Car class.
Prock drove at a clocked 341.68 mph (549.88 km/h), in Pomona, California, USA, on November 17, they said.
“Austin Prock made the fastest run in NHRA history during the first round of eliminations at the 2024 NHRA Finals, held at the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip. He had clinched his first NHRA championship the previous day.”
12. Most Skateboard Street Gold Medals Won At The X Games: Ventura
California skateboarder Nyjah Huston has won record-breaking skateboard street gold medals at the X Games. A Guinness spokesperson said that Huston won 11 X Games medals between 2011 and 2024.
This was Huston’s first X Games gold medal win since 2019 at X Games Ventura in California, USA, on June 30, 2024. Huston has won 15 gold medals across numerous competitions, tying that record held by Garrett Reynolds and Shaun White.
13. Longest Career As A Game Show Host For The Same Show (Male) Pat Sajek: Culver City
Pat Sajak spun his last in the “Wheel of Fortune” on June 7, and he won a world record for the longest career as a game show host for the same show. Sajak called out letters for 40 years 275 days at the Culver City studios, according to Guinness.
Sajak started his career with “Wheel of Fortune” in September of 1981 and continued for 41 seasons.
14. Youngest World Surf League Champion (Female): Trestles
Caitlin Simmers, a now 19-year-old surfer, was 18 years old and 316 days old when she won while surfing at the World Surf League Finals at Lower Trestles on Sept. 6, 2024.
Simmers defeated Caroline Marks 2–1 in the best-of-three Title Match to become the World Surf’s League youngest-ever women’s champion. She finished at the top of the Championship Tour rankings with three wins that year.
By comparison, Margo Oberg was 15 when she won the 1968 World Surfing Championship, but this tournament predates the first championship recognized by the World Surf League – the 1976 IPS World Circuit, according to a Guinness spokesperson.
15. The Largest Gathering Of People Dressed As Albert Einstein: San Francisco
In March, 885 people gathered at the behest of Salesforce, Inc., to attempt a world record while dressing as Albert Einstein, the renowned physicist. The attempt at a world record was designed to launch its artificial intelligence integration into Salesforce products, a spokesperson for the brand said.
“Albert Einstein’s birthday is March 14, just one week after the record was broken,” Colin Fleming, EVP of Global Brand Marketing, said. “Together with the collective genius of our Trailblazers, we’re not just breaking records – we’re using trusted AI to deepen customer relationships, increase productivity, and drive higher margins for our customers in this critical new chapter for technology.”
The group gathered in San Francisco, California, where the record was broken on March 6, 2024.
16. Most NFL Games Attended In A Single Season: Los Angeles
I hope Leon and Erin Ramsey earned the world record for attending the most NFL games in a single season. The pair visited a total of 33 games, going to their last on January 7, 2024, to see the Los Angeles Chargers fall to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hope and Erin love football and traveling, a Guinness spokesperson said. “They wanted to attend a game in every NFL stadium, so they attempted this record during the 2023-24 season, as a fun adventure and once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
17. Longest Surviving Double Heart Bypass Patient (Male): Los Angeles
Roger M. Miller is the longest surviving double heart bypass patient, having lived 52 years and 5 days since his surgery on March 13, 1972. That surgery took place in Los Angeles. Miller’s ticker was still ticking, verified on March 18, 2024, according to Guinness.
Miller said that he hopes this feat showcases how proper medical care, diet, and exercise can prolong life, even after a heart attack. A subsequent of his life story, he now lives by five epigrams:
“He is thrilled to hold the Guinness World Records title and considers it a great honor,” his webpage on Guinness reads. “He believes it is a wonderful addition to his story, which he can now share to inspire others.”
18. Most Consecutive Games Recording At Least One Strikeout (MLB Starting Pitcher): Los Angeles
This year, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw threw the most consecutive regular-season games as an MLB starting pitcher to record at least one strikeout. Kershaw threw 423 starting games with at least one strikeout, which began in the 2008 season.
The record streak ended when the Dodgers’ left-hander pitched only three and two-thirds innings against the San Diego Padres, failing to record a strikeout in that regular season starting July 31, 2024.
“Kershaw’s 423 straight starts with at least one strikeout is MLB’s longest since 1893, when the mound was moved to its current distance of 60 feet 6 inches (18.44 m),” a Guinness spokesperson said.
19. The first father-son duo to play on the same NBA team simultaneously is LeBron James (USA) and Bronny James (USA), a record-breaking feat that took place in Los Angeles on October 22, 2024.
“LeBron James became the first father to play on the same NBA franchise as his son,” a Guinness spokesperson said. “Bronny James took to the court alongside the NBA’s all-time scorer, also known as his father, in a historical feat for the James family. LeBron and Bronny graced the Crypto.com Arena court in front of the Laker nation and added to LeBron’s ever-growing list of basketball achievements.”
20. Largest Aerial Display Of A Fictional Character Formed By Multirotors/Drones: San Diego
Two records were broken in one aerial display this year, when a total of 1,607 drones worked to form larger-than-life superheroes. This feat was the largest aerial display of a fictional character formed by multirotors/drones. On July 25, 2024, Marvel Studios used the multi-rotor flying machines to display a midair rendering of Wolverine in San Diego, California.
The drone show took place at San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the release of the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Although the image of Deadpool initially broke the GWR record, the record was subsequently broken by the image of Wolverine later in the same show.
21. Most Half Marathons Completed In One Month (Male): San Francisco
A San Francisco man completed more half marathons in one month than any other man, according to Guinness. David Chase completed 24 half marathons in San Francisco on July 28, 2024.
“David’s curiosity in endurance running led him to attempt this record challenge,” according to Guinness. “He says he was inspired to test the limits of his own capabilities.”
22. Fastest Time To Type The Alphabet With The Pinkies “Little Fingers:” Los Angeles
The fastest time to type the alphabet with the little fingers is 4.60 seconds, and was achieved by Zoe Kushlefsky (USA), in Los Angeles, California, USA, on January 20, 2024.
“Zoe decided to attempt this record as she has always been a fan of Guinness World Records,” according to her Guinness web page.
23. Beyoncé Wins Most Grammy Nominations World Record: Los Angeles
Beyoncé (b. Beyoncé Knowles) has won the most Grammy Awards nominations of any artist, Guinness says. The “Put A Ring On It” singer” earned 99 nominations when the shortlists for the 67th annual music bash were announced on Nov. 8, 2024.
Her recent album added 11 more nominations. Beyoncé surged ahead of her husband, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, with whom she had been tied on 88 nominations since November 2022.
Beyoncé’s latest shortlisted works were for Album of the Year and Best Country Album (Cowboy Carter), Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Song (“Texas Hold ‘Em”), Best Country Solo Performance (“16 Carriages”), Best Country Duo/Group Performance (“II Most Wanted,” feat. Miley Cyrus), Best Americana Performance (“Ya Ya”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Bodyguard”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Levii’s Jeans”, featuring Post Malone) and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Spaghetti,” featuring Linda Martell & Shaboozey).
For a co-writing credit on six Cowboy Carter tracks (and clapping on “Jolene”!), Jay-Z secured his 89th nod at the Grammys in the Album of the Year category, but he now has “99 problems” to contend with if he’s to reclaim the record he once held alone from his wife.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were scheduled at the crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles in February.
24. Most Album Of The Year Awards Won At The Grammys By A Vocalist (Taylor Swift): Los Angeles
Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for a fourth time at the 66th Grammy Awards in February, staged at the crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
This was the “Lavender Haze” signer’s fourth record-breaking win in recognition of her 12th studio album Midnights (2022). Swift broke through her four-way tie with Frank Sinatra (1960, 1966–67), Stevie Wonder (1974–75 and 1977), and Paul Simon (1971, 1976 and 1987), who each won three Album of the Year Grammys.
Swift is a fourteen-time Grammy winner (2010–24) and 52-time nominee (2008–24). The “Anti-Hero” singer had previously won Album of the Year for Fearless (2010), 1989 (2016), and Folklore (2021).
In 2024, Swift’s award was presented by Celine Dion, who made her first public appearance after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder. Earlier in the evening, Swift used her acceptance speech after winning the Best Pop Vocal Album award to announce her 13th album, The Tortured Poets Department, released in April.
