PLAINFIELD, IL — Locals who used an ATM at PNC Bank on Route 59 may have been scammed, according to Plainfield police.
Officers recovered a skimming device found on the machine outside the bank, at 13470 S. Route 59, around 1 p.m. Monday after being notified of it by a third-party maintenance contractor, officials said. Police also recovered evidence but did not specify what kind.
Police received “many reports” of both credit and debit card fraud, but officials are unaware if any are related to the skimming device, Luke Ostreko, an administrative sergeant with the Plainfield Police Department, told Patch.

The incident remains under investigation by Plainfield police in conjunction with the contractor and PNC Bank.
Anyone with any leads or information on the ATM incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ron Mikos at 815-267-7237. Officials also urge people who believe they may be victims of credit or debit card fraud to contact their local police department and their bank to report the incident.
