Doctors being the good Samaritan is a common sight. And their undaunted service to humankind can be seen time and again across the globe. One such captivating effort by doctors from war-torn Ukraine has come to light.
In a viral video, a team of Ukrainian surgeons can be seen performing heart surgery on a child in the dark after facing an energy crisis due to Russian strikes. The aerial mauling of power supplies also took the nuclear plants and internet links offline.
“Today, during the missile attack by the Russians on Ukraine, electricity was cut off at the Heart Institute in Kyiv. At this time, surgeons were performing emergency heart surgery on the child,” Iryna Voichuk wrote on Twitter in the video post.

The video has since received 15.5k views and 359 retweets on the micro-blogging site.
In the video posted on Thursday, doctors can be seen displaying the needed caution amidst the inadequate lighting in the room. The only source of light in the operation theatre was the surgeons’ headlamps; even the commonly lit overhead light was not operational.

Doctors replaced two heart valves
The Newsweek, citing one of the doctors, reported that the operation involved a cardiopulmonary bypass to replace two heart valves.
“Nobody knows what happened, but the operating room completely blacked out,” the doctor said in a sarcastic remark aimed at Russians.
“Today it’s a child on the operating table. And power was completely lost in the middle of the surgery. Good job. Very humane people,” he added. The awe-inspiring clip attracted praise from thousands of Twitter users.
“These surgeons are hero’s!!! Good best friend to have. The best” one user tweeted. “In the eye of the storm of war. Calm, diligent and professional Ukrainian med & surgical heros,” said another. “They are as heroic as the soldiers in the frontline. We Ukrainians are a nation of heroes! ,” a third user commented.
Blackout was visible from space
As per a report by Reuters, Night-time satellite images released by NASA show that a large part of Ukraine was covered in darkness in November, compared to neighbouring nations.
The images recorded over a month reveal the global regions in dark conditions. NASA used its cutting-edge technology to reveal the extent of Ukraine’s blackout.
Russia fired around 70 missiles
This incident comes in the wake of deadly strikes – in which Russia targeted Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities – launching about 70 missiles on Wednesday.
As per reports, around 10 people were killed in the attack and another 30 were left injured.
Kyiv was one of the main targets of Wednesday’s attacks on energy facilities that cut power in many regions. It necessitated emergency blackouts to conserve energy and enable repairs as winter sets in.
The temperature plunged below zero degrees Celsius overnight in a city with 2.8 million residents before the war. It had already snowed there, covering the streets with ice.
