JOLIET — A 32-year-old Joliet man who has no business being behind the wheel of an automobile now faces felony DUI charges after Joliet police arrested Alan Mimiaga-Gazca over the weekend.
The 32-year-old was later released from custody and given his notice to appear in court on two charges of aggravated DUI and possession of controlled substances.
The arrest took place at a time when most of Joliet’s residents are sound asleep in their beds.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:
At 1:39 a.m. on Sunday, the officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Silverado near Fourth Avenue and Richards Street for failing to obey a traffic control device. Mimiaga-Gazca was the driver and he demonstrated behaviors consistent with possible alcohol impairment.

He also indicated that he consumed alcohol prior to driving. Mimiaga-Gazca completed field sobriety tests and was placed into custody without incident. Upon search of Mimiaga-Gazca, the officers recovered suspected crack cocaine and cannabis from his pocket.

Mimiaga-Gazca was also cited for Disobeyed Traffic Control Device, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, No Valid Driver’s License, Expired Registration, and Possession of Cannabis by Driver. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
