PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield mother’s two children were hospitalized Aug. 15 after the woman crashed her car while under the influence, Plainfield police said.
Officers and firefighters were called at about 8:25 p.m. that Thursday to the area near Drauden Road and Rock Drive for a crash. While investigating, police determined Brittany Smith, 36, was driving a 2018 Dodge Journey northbound on Drauden when the car crossed over the raised median into oncoming traffic and struck a 2023 Hyundai Elantra, Commander Anthony Novak told Patch.
Smith’s two children, ages 6 and 8, were in the car and transported to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet with non-life-threatening injuries, Novak said. Smith refused medical attention on the scene.
