According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the brush fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. and burned about a quarter of an acre alongside the freeway in the 800 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze before the winds whip flames up the hillside to nearby homes.

Just before 9:30 p.m. firefighters had the fire knocked down.

“Firefighters worked quickly to get lines in place on the flanks of the fire while additional crews handled the hybrid auto which ignited the brush fire,” said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. “No structures damaged and no injuries reported. Firefighters will continue to address hot spots which may impact the SB 405 Freeway.”

The fire burned alongside the southbound lanes of the freeway, and drivers were advised to avoid the area or expect delays. Just after 9 p.m., the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the freeway at Getty Center Driver. It was expected to last about a half hour.
