Concord Firefighters Knock Down 2-Alarm Fire On Penacook Street

CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams quickly put down a building fire on Penacook Street Sunday morning.

Around 7:15 a.m., fire dispatch spotted and began receiving calls about smoke from 26 Penacook St., a two-family house between North State and Rumford streets. A battalion chief immediately set up a command and confirmed flames from the building. All the city’s firefighters headed to the scene, along with Bow and Hooksett firefighters and a Hopkinton ambulance.

Allenstown, Boscawen, Pembroke firefighters, and the Penacook Rescue were also called to the city for mutual aid.

Concord police closed off traffic to both sides of the street and part of North State Street.

Around 7:30 a.m., the commander confirmed water was on the fire. A few minutes later, a second alarm was struck.

“We do want the second alarm companies on scene,” they said. “We’ll take the help, covering the scene.”

Firefighters from Allenstown, Boscawen, and Pembroke and Manchester were then requested. Epsom, Loudon, and Henniker firefighters were also requested for mutual aid. The commander requested incoming firefighters to stage on Bradley Street.

According to scanner chatter, utilities were shut off to the building and firefighters were unable to access the basement. They confirmed the all-clear at the building around 7:45 a.m.

Just before 8 a.m., the fire commander reported the fire was under control and firefighters were overhauling the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this post.

The home, according to assessing and real estate posts online, was recently sold to Mammoth Properties out of Windham for $330,000 in late August. Crews have been at the home for weeks renovating the building.
