GUILFORD, CT — Char & Lemon, an Oxford-based restaurant that serves up wood-fired pizza, homemade pasta and Italian entrees, is planning on opening a location in Guilford.
The restaurant announced this week it will open in spring 2025. Guilford First Selectman Matt Hoey confirmed with Patch the new eatery will be located at 2 Water St., the former site of Amarone, an Italian restaurant that recently closed.
“A huge thank you to our community for helping us branch out to our second home and for all the support – we truly couldn’t do it without you,” Char & Lemon posted on social media. “We’ll start sharing more details as it gets closer, so stay tuned for more!”

Hoey said the addition of Char & Lemon to the downtown Guilford area is a plus for the town.

“The downtown area has become restaurant central over the last few years, and it continues to draw people into the downtown area which benefits the other merchants,” Hoey said. “With Amarone going out of business, it left a hole in a very highly visible place. To see another restaurant come back into that facility is really exciting, and we look forward to them coming here… It just adds another element of choice for folks who are looking to dine out in the downtown Guilford area.”

Char & Lemon first opened in the Quarry Walk development in Oxford in 2019.
“Char & Lemon is a bright and contemporary pizzeria serving a modern twist on Neapolitan-style red and white pies, homemade pastas & Italian-influenced entrees,” the restaurant’s website says. “Come experience our dueling wood burning ovens and watch our pizza professionals make your pizza right in front of you. Relax on our raised outdoor deck with one of our signature cocktails, the Charred Lemon’d Martini is a must-try!”
The menu at the Oxford location features starters, like eggplant parm fries, slow braised meatballs and crispy brussels sprouts, to name a few. Pasta dishes and larger plates include options like short rib gnocchi, seafood pasta, crispy chicken milanese, and more.
Guests can also choose from a variety of paninis, which are on the lunch menu, salads, and desserts. Char & Lemon also has a wine and cocktail menu, as well as a Sunday brunch offering.
The wood fired pizza comes in 13-inch personal pies made with 100 percent organic wheat flour, and fresh mozzarella that’s made in-house. Gluten free pizza is also available.
There are a variety of red and white pizzas to choose from, and the ability to make your own pie from over 20 toppings.
