Bolingbrook Boy Competes In MLB Youth Skills Competition

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook 11-year-old baseball player is hoping to make his way to the World Series, by competing in the MLB’s Pitch, Hit and Run youth skills competition.

Jay Germany, who plays baseball at Humphrey Middle School, qualified for the national level of the competition thanks to his results at the local level, his mom, Charmaine Warren, told Patch.

“All 30 MLB teams [hosted] a championship qualifier round throughout the country through the last week of August, with the top 30 kids being selected for an all expense paid trip to the 2024 World Series to compete in the finals,” Warren said.

If Jay scored the highest, compared to the other kids in the 11-12 year-old age bracket, he has a chance to be invited to the World Series.

Warren said they found out about the MLB youth competition by watching last year’s World Series.

“During a break in game play, the commentator announced the local champions of the MLBs Pitch, Hit and Run skills competition and all the kids ran on the field at the World Series,” Warren said. “I told Jay that would be so cool to try out next year.”

Warren started following the competition’s social media accounts and found out when they announced the 2024 program and the local hosts in the Chicago area.

“I signed Jay up for a local competition through MLB.com, which his scores were the highest locally to take him to the championship round at Guaranteed Rate Field,” Warren said.

Jay competed at the White Sox home field on Aug. 31, and is waiting to hear the results to see if he’ll be selected for an all-expenses paid trip to the World Series to compete in the finals.

As part of his participation in the championship qualifier round, Jay got tickets to the White Sox game that night. Warren said the competition at Guaranteed Rate Field went “very well,” and that Jay was a top performer in hitting.
