'Elusive' Stray Dog Journey Rescued In Laguna Niguel

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A stray dog now named Journey who was seen roaming the streets of Laguna Niguel for a month has finally been captured, thanks to Mission Viejo Animal Services.

Journey was first reported over a month ago, but with every attempt at rescue, she quickly ran away.

“Journey’s time on the street was not without risks. Presumably avoiding traffic and searching for food and water wherever available, her ability to survive was impressive,” Mission Viejo Spokeswoman Kelly Tokarski told Patch. “Recently, things took a positive turn when the Animal Services Center received a tip that Journey was spotted in a backyard.”

Tokarski said that upon arrival, the Animal Services team quickly set up a box trap and baited it was an effective lure — a chicken sandwich.

Journey was caught within an hour, ending her time wandering the streets.

“Journey was very elusive, but we never gave up,” Senior Animal Control Officer Stewart, who facilitated Journey’s capture, told Patch. “Our team worked hard, and we’re very happy with the outcome.”

Journey is currently at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, where staff says she is “showing her sweet nature.”

“She’s receiving excellent care along with plenty of love and attention,” Tokarski said. “Staff is hoping to find Journey’s owner; however, it will be a challenge since she has no microchip or identifying information.”

If no owner is found, Tokarski said, the shelter will move forward with finding her a loving home.
