Mentalist, Who Grew Up In Massapequa, 'Very Excited' To Perform On LI

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Mentalist Steve Taubman is returning to his roots. The Massapequa native, who performed at the Lindenhurst’s Studio Theater in the 1970s, is coming back for a one-night only event.

His new show is called “Mind Magic.” Taubman promises an interactive experience in the intimate 130-seater on Wellwood Avenue.

He has built up various skills to amaze and entertain, starting with close-up magic in 1990. Taubman has also worked with hypnosis, including as the official hypnotist for MTV Spring Break.

The current show “evolved from little bits and pieces of everything I had done before,” Taubman told Patch. “If we learn how to control and quiet our minds, it improves our health [and] happiness.”

It’s a special treat when Taubman, who moved to Vermont decades ago, plays Long Island.

“I have my sister and her family in Greenlawn,” he said.

While he’s appeared at area colleges, “This is the first time I’m doing my one-man show at a theater here on the island. So I’m very excited about it.”

Taubman’s family moved to Massapequa when he was 5 and remained there until he was 21. He was also spend four years in Oyster Bay where he went to Chiropractic school.

The Massapequa High School graduate is connected indirectly with one of the school’s most famous alums — Jerry Seinfeld

“We had the same English teacher, who we both loved,” Taubman said. “He’s two years older than me, so we didn’t have her at the same time. She had great memories of both of us.”

Taubman will participate in his 15th-year high school reunion a day after his “Mind Magic” show on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The Studio Theater is located at 141 South Wellwood Ave. in Lindenhurst.
