Surveillance Video Shows Car Smashing Into Fairfield Smoke Shop: PD

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield police are continuing to investigate Sunday’s burglary at the Mohegan Smoke Shop on Tunxis Hill Cutoff, where thieves backed a car into the front of the store, smashing the glass door and metal security gate. See the video below.

Fairfield Police Sgt. Michael Stahl told Patch that the department was alerted to the break in from an alarm at about 3:20 a.m., and upon arrival, officers discovered “the entire storefront of the business significantly damaged.”

After smashing the vehicle into the store, two people jumped out and began to loot it.

“Assorted merchandise was taken,” Stahl said. “The value is undisclosed at this time.”

Fairfield police found the unoccupied vehicle a short while later, but Stahl did not disclose where the vehicle was found or whether it had been stolen.

“At this time we are trying to limit some of the specifics that go out,” he said.

While not common, Sunday’s burglary is not the first time thieves have smashed their way into a store, Stahl said.

“We’ve seen situations like this in the past, particularly years ago, when we were experiencing burglary sprees involving the theft of ATMs,” Stahl said.
