'Abnormal' Parking On Elmhurst Street: City

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is considering adding a restriction to a block where residents have seen an “abnormal” increase in weekday parking, according to a city memo.

Residents on Kenilworth Avenue between Adelia and Church streets reported parked cars blocking driveways and fire hydrants, the memo said.

The residents also said the drivers and passengers are leaving garbage in the parkway.

“The residents who live along this block have expressed concern about the resulting one lane of traffic and inability to back out of their driveways,” the memo said.

City staff said they verified the residents’ concerns and proposed a two-hour parking limit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. All 13 residents along the block agreed with the change.

A block north on Kenilworth, the city has signs limiting parking to two hours between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. In that case, the city likely included weekends because of the block’s closeness to downtown and the train station, according to the memo.

On Monday, a City Council committee is set to vote on the restriction on Kenilworth between Adelia and Church.
