Tony Khan Was Approached By Top Executive Back In 2022 About Bringing ROH To The CW, Why Khan Didn’t Pursue The Option

The pro-wrestling world was shocked when WWE and The CW announced a new partnership that will see the network broadcast the WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, starting in 2024. NXT will continue to run on USA until then, and have been on the channel since 2019.

However, WWE was not the only pro-wrestling company that The CW approached. According to the Haus of Wrestling, an executive reached out to AEW President Tony Khan back in 2022 about bringing ROH to their network. However, Khan did not pursue the talks as he wanted to get AEW’s television rights deal settled for 2024 first. It is noted in the report that Khan got along great with the executive, but felt it was not the right time to strike a deal. Haus of Wrestling also writes that Khan believes he will have more leverage by waiting.

Another promotion that was rumored to be coming to The CW was the NWA. That seems to no longer be the case now that WWE struck a deal.
