FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Thanks to an unknown “kind soul,” a Fairfax City family is celebrating the return of a beloved lost toy named “Bear.”
“We were devastated upon realizing Bear had fallen out of the stroller along our 3-mile walk through Daniels Run Park and down Main Street, especially because Bear could certainly not be replaced,” Fairfax City resident Hannah Converse told Patch on Friday. “It was my rattle lovey given to me when I was born back in 1988.”
Discovering that her 2-year-old daughter Claire’s toy was missing after their walk on Wednesday, Converse turned to social media for help. She posted the following on the Next Door app:

“Non emergency SOS: my daughter, dog, and I were walking through Daniels Run Park and her beloved stuff animal rattle dropped out of the stroller. If anyone finds a light pink small and well loved stuffed animal (possibly a hippo, maybe a donkey, possibly a bear? Haha we’ve never known what it is exactly), could you please let me know.”
Converse invited anyone who found the stuffed toy to place it on one of the posts marking the entrance to Daniels Run Park off of Estel and Barlow roads. She also gave her address, so that the toy could be left in her mailbox.

On Thursday, Converse’s husband was recording a video of some birds when he discovered that someone had left Bear on their porch. [View the video below.]
Converse shared the following message on Next Door:
“THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the kind soul who found and returned ‘bear’ to us on our porch!!!!! Not sure who was happier, our little girl or me, her mom! It broke my heart to hear her sob for ‘bear.’ I looked and looked along our entire 3 mile route yesterday and couldn’t find it, so I am BEYOND grateful!!! Thank you!!! We will be air tagging him now.”
