Thielmann was shot during a May 25 incident, as officers were investigating a stolen vehicle near Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive in Romeoville. When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect, now identified as Samer Hernandez, 29, fled on foot, police said. A foot pursuit began, in which officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and Thielmann was shot.
Hernandez has been charged with armed robbery, stemming from a stolen vehicle incident that happened on May 20 in Romeoville. Bond has been set at $5 million, and 10 percent does not apply.
Hernandez’s next court date is June 15.
