Pat McAfee and Amazon are in contractual talks to bring the WWE Smackdown color commentator to their platform as part of their Thursday Night Football NFL broadcast.
The New York Post is reporting that while nothing has been finalized or signed, conversations are being had to bring McAfee on board. In addition, the report indicates that Amazon has shown interest in bringing McAfee’s weekday YouTube show, The Pat McAfee Show to their Prime Video platform. Currently, the show airs on YouTube and SiriusXM.
McAfee is a former NFL punter. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009 and played for the team through eight seasons before retiring in 2016. McAfee started The Pat McAfee Show in 2016 under the Barstool Sports banner, but left the company in 2018 and went out on his own.
McAfee began appearing for WWE in 2018 during NXT TakeOver kickoff shows. His presence with the company grew from there, leading to him leading YouTube watch-a-longs during WWE PPV events. In July of 2020, McAfee and Cole began their feud together during Cole’s live appearance on McAfee’s show. The confrontation led to a match between both men at NXT TakeOver 30. Cole won the match with a Panama Sunrise. The two men would cross paths in the ring again during NXT TakeOver: War Games the same year.
Most recently, McAfee competed against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38. In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Vince McMahon announced that McAfee would be allowed to compete in a match at WrestleMania. McMahon’s protege, Theory, was later revealed to be his opponent. At WrestleMania, McAfee defeated Theory, but then lost in a match to Mr. McMahon.
Currently, McAfee serves as the lead color commentator for WWE Smackdown, a position he’s. held since April of 2021.
