As told to L’Équipe, FFF president Noël Le Graët has announced that he will meet with the head of French refereeing Pascal Garibian to explain that he intends to replace him.
The president explained, at the end of the French FA’s executive committee today, that the intention was to change the organisation’s strategy in terms of refereeing, and that it was “more than likely” that there would be a change after he meets with Garibian, which he intends to do soon.
He added that several professionals wanted to get rid of Garibian, an international referee from 1995 to 2006 – in effect, he will no longer be in charge after the World Cup. Among his potential successors are first and foremost Stéphane Lannoy, as wel as Anthony Gauthier and Alain Sars. Garibian was considered by his peers to be too rigid and stuck in his ways, and with the Ligue 1 presidents unanimously calling for his departure his position was now becoming untenable.
