Monaco and France international midfielder Youssouf Fofana (24) has opened up on a potential transfer to PSG in the future. The Paris-born World Cup runner-up gave a wide-ranging interview to France 2 and spoke at length about his early struggles in his journey towards making a living from football.
Fofana was left out of the famed INF Clairefontaine football centre. He then played for amateur side Drancy’s U19 side, while delivering pizzas for several months to earn a living, and considered giving up on his dream of becoming a professional fooball player. “It didn’t work so I thought a career in football wasn’t for everybody, and I had to focus on school now.“
A second shot at glory came thanks to Strasbourg scouts who spotted him. Fofana quickly climbed up the Strasbourg ranks until Monaco signed him on January 2020 on a four-and-a-half year deal. The 24-year-old moved up a gear when Didier Deschamps called him up for his first France cap in 2022 and, considering the French absentees in the center of the pitch such as Paul Pogba or N’Golo Kanté, it was no surprise to see Fofana board the plane to Qatar. Now a mainstay for Monaco and attracting interest from abroad, the Paris born defensive midfielder opened up about a return to the French capital. When asked whether PSG would be his dream move, Fofana replied that Paris “is where I come from. It would be normal to come back home. It would be a dream come true, because it’s home. But this is football, one has to take the best offer that there is.“
